In fact, the latter equalized for the first time after being steered into a breakaway by teammate Kyle MacLean. He finished the job in overtime, giving the Islanders their 15th win of the season.
For the Rockets, Emil Heineman scored the first goal in the first period with assists from Xavier Simoneau and Philippe Maillet.
Because bad news never comes easy, striker Jan Mysak had to leave the game after a collision with Bridgeport player Ruslan Iskhakov. The first city never returned to the game after that.
In goal, Jakub Dobes made 24 saves for Laval, while his counterpart Henrik Tikkanen stopped 27 pucks.
With this loss, the Rockets are eliminated from the playoffs and sit in sixth place in the North Division with a record of 21-20-5-2.
Thus, Jean-François Houle's men end their journey of three games in three days on opposing rinks with a win, a loss and a setback in overtime.
The Laval team will return to its home at Place Bell on Wednesday against the Hershey Bears.
