Tennis Felix Auger Aliassime loses in Rome to a qualified player

Big drop in the rankings for Félix Auger-Aliassime

Quebec’s Félix Auger-Aliassime is paying in some ways for his stunning success at the end of the 2022 season, as he dropped seven places in the men’s world tennis rankings and is now just outside the ATP top 30.

In Monday’s update, FAA was in 29th place after a loss of 200 points. Although he won the Basel tournament at the end of October, he could not avoid his fall as he had a lot of points to defend at that time of year. The maple leaf athlete won titles in Florence, Antwerp and Basel in the fall and reached the semi-finals in Paris. His performances allowed him to receive a ticket to the ATP Finals.

This year, apart from the success in Switzerland, it was nothing. In his last competition, Auger-Aliassime was eliminated in the second round in Paris.

The Serbian Novak Djokovic remains at the top, where he will stay until the end of 2023. He is ahead of the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz. Quebecers Gabriel Diallo and Alexis Galarneau are ranked 136th and 198th, respectively.

In the women’s event, Poland’s Iga Swiatek remains at the top after a week of eyes on the Billie Jean King Cup, which Canada won in style thanks to the success of Marina Stakusic and Leylah Fernandez. Furthermore, she is ranked 36th in the WTA, falling one place behind. Eugenie Bouchard appears on the 276th level.
