Bill Cosby faces new lawsuit in Nevada after state lifted statute of limitations for sexual assault

(CNN) – Several women who have accused Bill Cosby of sexual assault in the past filed a new lawsuit Wednesday, seeking a jury trial against the comedian in Nevada, where a new state law recently eliminated the statute of limitations on many sexual assault cases.

The lawsuit was filed by nine women in Nevada federal district court, and all plaintiffs allege that Cosby allegedly gave them tainted pills or drinks during encounters in Nevada and that they were sexually abused while intoxicated. The lawsuit alleges the encounters took place between approximately 1979 and 1992.

“Defendant Cosby drugged or attempted to drug each of these women before sexually abusing them,” the lawsuit reads.

Plaintiffs in the new lawsuit are Lise Lotte-Lublin, Lili Bernard, Janice Baker-Kinney, Rebecca Cooper, Janice Dickinson, Linda Kirkpatrick, Angela Leslie, Pam Joy Abeyta and Heidi Thomas.

Dickinson, a television personality and supermodel, was among several plaintiffs named in the lawsuit who testified against Cosby at his 2018 criminal trial in Pennsylvania.

A jury found Cosby guilty of three counts of aggravated indecent assault against Andrea Constand in 2018, but the conviction was overturned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in 2021 in a separate civil trial.

The Nevada lawsuit also alleges that “Cosby used his tremendous power, fame and prestige” to isolate and sexually assault the women named in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit was filed just weeks after new state law that lifted the statute of limitations for most sexual assault cases went into effect. Cosby also faces lawsuits in other states that have recently passed similar laws, such as New York and California.

Cosby’s publicist Andrew Wyatt, citing those laws, questioned the accusers’ motives in a statement Wednesday about the new lawsuit.

“From this day forward, we will no longer allow these women to present various reports of alleged prosecution against Mr. Cosby without scrutiny in the court of public opinion and in the courtroom,” Wyatt said.
