Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates gutted his $43 million 5,800-square-foot San Diego oceanfront mansion and is rebuilding it from the ground up after his divorce from Melinda.
Neighbors are not too happy about it.
The New York Post reports that the tech mogul has completely renovated the palace with six bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, a glass-tiled pool, a fire pit and stunning Pacific Ocean views that stretch the length of the property.
However, Gate’s new start comes at the expense of the peace and quiet of its neighbors.
“It was a nuisance,” one neighbor told the Post.

This is what you can buy for $43 million in the Del Mar area of San Diego. Bill Gates decided to do a complete house renovation after his divorce from Melinda.

Gates’ home boasts stunning views of the beach. Neighbors complain that its renovation has become a hindrance
“They make a lot of noise, my child cannot sleep,” another local resident told the newspaper. “It became a hindrance to the whole neighborhood.”
Gates has invested his $134 billion capital in the San Diego Department of Buildings, which appears to have accelerated approval for renovations.
Just a year ago, Gates bought the site for $43 million from oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens’ ex-wife, Madeleine Pickens, who added three adjoining lots when she owned it. Photos of real estate from that time show the property in a state of “turnkey”.
Three months later, he announced his divorce from Melinda after 27 years. Demolition began on the site in January.
The couple’s public split was due to a combination of circumstances, not the least of which was Bill’s affair in 2000.

“It wasn’t one moment or any particular thing, there just came a point in time where it was enough for me to realize it was just unhealthy and I couldn’t trust what we had,” she told Gail. King in a TV interview.
It’s unclear if Gates wants to erase Melinda’s memories by completely renovating the house, but the original house was not a renovation.
“The house they bought was in immaculate condition, it’s not entirely clear why he wanted to demolish it,” a local realtor told The Post.
This home, which also includes a two-bedroom guest house and an open-plan living room, has become one of the most expensive real estate purchases in 2021.
The Post reports that insiders say that when completed, the Del Mar mansion will become Gates’ summer bachelor pad.
He takes a keen interest in how it works.
“When he comes in, he checks the house, goes out in front of the house, inspects it,” sources told the Post.
An expected completion date has been set for August, but photos obtained by the newspaper show it is nearly level.
“They are working around the clock to do this,” a source told the newspaper.
