In an interview with Allure, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter spoke about healing from past pain.

“I did this thing where it seems like it’s okay to find out all the things that are going to hurt you the most, because when you know those things, you can have a sense of control over those things . And once you know, you can heal. Then I will become invincible!” She explained.

The Ocean Eyes singer continued, “But what I’ve learned… is that time passes and I still have scars. You don’t have to be in pain to get out of pain. I did it and I don’t want to do it again.”

In a 2019 interview with Rolling Stone, the American singer revealed that she became depressed and “went through a period of self-harm” after sustaining an injury while dancing at the age of 13.

“Basically, I felt like I deserved to suffer,” she explained at the time. It’s funny. When someone else thinks of Billie Eilish at 14, they think of all the good things that happened. But all I can think about is how unhappy I was. How completely helpless and lost I was. Between 13 and 16 it was pretty difficult.”
