Leylah Fernandezs long journey is coming to an end

Billie Jean King Cup: Fernandez and Bouchard are in the final

Quebecers Leylah Annie Fernandez and Eugenie Bouchard will represent Canada in the Billie Jean King Cup final.

Tennis Canada made the announcement on Monday.

The two women will work with Rebecca Marino, Gabriela Dabrowski and Marina Stakusic. The competition will take place from November 7th to 12th in Seville, Spain.

The Maple Leaf will meet the host country on November 8 and Poland the next day.

“I am very excited to see what this group can achieve in Seville against the best players in the world for the third consecutive year,” captain Heidi El Tabakh said in a press release from Tennis Canada.

“We recently saw great performances from Leylah, Rebecca, Gabriela, Eugenie and Marina. This team is a great mix of experience and leadership and I am confident we have what it takes to show the world what Canadian women are capable of.”

It’s a return to the Billie Jean King Cup for Bouchard, who hasn’t competed in the competition since 2018. The 232nd ranked player in the world is 13-4 in games at the annual event.

Fernandez, for his part, should be the spearhead of the Canadian team. The world number 60. in the singles and the 19th in the doubles played a decisive role in the qualification against Belgium and won all three games.
