Billie Lourd shares a poignant throwback with late mother Carrie Fisher in honor of the star’s 66th birthday – as she reflects on grief in emotional messages
Billie Lourd posted a touching Instagram tribute to her late mother, Carrie Fisher, on Friday in honor of the late star’s 66th birthday.
The 30-year-old daughter of the legendary actress and writer wrote a moving caption under a childhood photo of the couple.
Lourd affectionately referred to Fisher as her “mommy” and wrote about the grief she’s experienced since her mother’s sudden death from cardiac arrest in 2017 at the age of 60.

“My mom would have been 66 today,” began Lourd, whose Instagram handle is @praisethelourd. “I woke up this morning feeling like I should write some long wise grief advice like I know what the heck I’m talking about.”
But the Ticket to Paradise star shared that she has “no formula or map” on what to do when losing her mother is particularly painful, and that no one can be “an expert on grief”.
Calling grief “the ultimate shapeshifter,” Billie told her 1.5million followers that people grieving an immense loss will never feel like they “know exactly what to do or what to feel.”
“And that’s okay,” she added. “Whatever you’re feeling is fine.” The Booksmart star finished her caption by sending love to all the “Griefers” and explaining that they are “not alone”.

As the only child of Carrie Fisher, Billie grew up in the glare of the Hollywood spotlight.
Her father is Bryan Lourd, 61, one of Hollywood’s most powerful agents, and her mother’s death prevented the tragic death of another star – Lourd’s legendary grandmother Debbie Reynolds.
Reynolds, a multi-hyphenate from Hollywood’s Golden Age, suffered a massive stroke the day after her daughter died and subsequently died at the age of 84.
Billie has posted on Instagram in the past about losing both her mother and grandmother in the same day. In the years since their consecutive deaths, Lourd has repeatedly honored the Star Wars icon and legend of Singin’ in the Rain.

In a 2017 interview with Town & Country, the Scream Queens star spoke about stepping out of the “shadows” of her mother and grandmother’s monumental careers.
“I’ve always kind of lived in their shadow,” Lourd said, “and now it’s the first time in my life that I own my life and stand on my own two feet.”
The mother-of-one recently announced she is expecting her second child with husband Austen Rydell, 31. The couple married in March this year after welcoming son Kingston Fisher Lourd Rydell in 2020.
Kingston’s middle name, Fisher, is a tribute to his late grandmother, Carrie. Perhaps Lourd’s second child’s name contains a homage to her own grandmother, Debbie.
