Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs had two years left on the five-year, $72 million deal. But as the wide receiver market exploded this offseason, it became clear that Diggs wanted a raise sooner rather than later.
The Bills gave him this raise. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Diggs agreed to a four-year, $104 million extension with a $70 million guarantee. Adding those four years to the two years left on his old contract, Diggs is now under contract with the Bills for the next six seasons, making it very likely that he will spend the best years of his career in Buffalo .
Although the Bills Diggs could have said he had to play out his existing contract, the Bills actually see themselves as Super Bowl contenders this year and didn’t want one of their best players to be unhappy. Striking a deal with Diggs now ensures his contract will not be a distraction.
Diggs was traded from the Vikings to the Bills in 2020 and has reached the Pro Bowl in both seasons in Buffalo. The Bills believe Diggs and Josh Allen will be a winning combination for years to come.
