“When you observe a dead animal, it is important not to touch it,” Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine’s regional health agency (DRSP) warned in a press release Thursday afternoon.
Cases of avian flu have been confirmed in at least two birds found in Gaspésie, Public Health says.
A first case of bird flu was confirmed in a crow Monday at Bonaventure’s MRC, Radio-Canada reported.
“The DRSP is also made aware that several dead birds, gannets, have also been seen by citizens on the beaches of the Magdalen Islands,” writes Gaspésie’s Integrated Health and Welfare Service (CISSS).
However, there have been no cases of bird flu on the Gaspésie and Îles-de-la-Madeleine farms, the Quebec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food said on Thursday evening.
CISSS encourages the public to report animals found dead to 1 844 ANIMALS (264-6289).
