The Marvel Studios film became the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2022 after grossing over $821 million worldwide.
In its opening weekend, the film had a $181 million domestic debut, earning it the second-biggest opening night of the year after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, also a Marvel Studios film.

Wakanda Forever took place after the death of King T’Challa as Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku and Okoye fought to protect their nation from encroaching world powers.
The film was the second Black Panther film to be made, following the original in 2018. The first film grossed $84 million on opening day, including $28 million from Thursday’s previews.
Then, in February 2018, it opened at $202 million and has grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
Black Panther received seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Original Score, Best Original Song (for All the Stars), Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing.

Wakanda Forever was arguably the most emotional Marvel film made to date due to the real-life loss of the original Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman, in 2020.
He secretly battled stage three colon cancer for four years and continued that battle throughout the filming process for his five-picture deal with Marvel Studios.
Ahead of the premiere, Chadwick’s castmates and friends paid tribute to him as they celebrated their new film.
Emotional Weight: Wakanda Forever took place after Chadwick’s death and focused on the loss of his character in the film, making it arguably one of the most emotional Marvel films made to date
Speaking to Variety on the carpet, Letitia Wright, who played Shuri, said, “I’m tense up. I saw some members of Chad’s team. If we close our eyes, we know how that feels. We have to step back.’
She continued: “I see my aunt looking into my eyes, she is very proud. I have to take a step back… It’s emotional. We’re trying to keep it together.’
Before and after his breakthrough role in Marvel films, Chadwick amassed a full filmography across multiple genres.
