Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to premiere on Disney+

Disney+ announced on Monday (3) that the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be added to the platform’s catalog on February 1st. The announcement came days after rumors about when the feature film would actually be available to subscribers on the platform. Directed by Ryan Coogler (Creed: Born to Fight) and produced by Marvel Studios, the film’s sequel debuted in Brazilian theaters on November 10 and has since grossed $820 million (4.4 billion real, in Brazil ) grossed worldwide box office.

The nearly threehour film project marks the departure of actor Chadwick Boseman (The Supreme Voice of the Blues) as the titular superhero, who died of colon cancer in August 2020. Because of this, Marvel decided not to replace the star in the role and to rewrite the script for the sequel. The film stars Letitia Wright (Guava Island), Lupita Nyong’o (Us), Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead) and Tenoch Huerta (007 Contra Spectre).

Considered a commercial success and popular with the public and review critics, it was the sixth highestgrossing film of 2022. So, as expected, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has excellent reviews, especially when it comes to review aggregator websites. For example, on IMDb, the average rating assigned to the film is 7.2, based on 130,000. Previously on Rotten Tomatoes, Ryan Coogler’s work garnered an 84% approval rating based on 412 reviews and a 94% audience score.

According to the site’s consensus, the film is “a moving tribute that satisfactorily pushes the franchise forward, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever marks an ambitious and emotionally rewarding triumph for the MCU.” It’s also worth noting that critics generally praised the cast’s performance. In addition, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever received two nominations from the 80th Golden Globe Awards and six nominations from the 28th Critics’ Choice Awards.

The story of the sequel follows the grief of T’Challa’s (Chadwick Boseman) family and close friends following his death from a previously unknown illness. A year after the tragic event, Wakanda’s leaders are trying to care for and protect the fragile nation, but other countries are trying to pressure the current government to share the precious mineral vibranium.

In addition to the looming threat of attack and robbery, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) also has to worry about Namor (Tenoch Huerta), king of Talokan, an underwater kingdom, in this new chapter. That’s because Black Panther’s antagonist has planned unusual activities in the depths of the seas that could jeopardize Wakanda’s future.
