Black smoke can be seen coming from the Brooklyn Con Ed plant following power outages across New York

Black smoke billowed from a ConEd plant in Brooklyn while power outages occurred across New York City.

The outages occurred just after midnight on Friday and footage captured shows clouds spreading out from the facility.

A temporary power outage ensued across New York City, followed by lights flickering for several seconds.

The New York Fire Department was quickly on scene and sirens could be seen at the ConEd facility.

Most electricity is available again after the incident. Con Edison said it is currently investigating the issue and has contacted the company for more information.

Residents across New York City complained about the brief power outage, with most confused about the outage.

Lights were reported to be flickering in neighborhoods such as Lower Manhattan, the Upper East Side, Bed-Stuy, Downtown Brooklyn and Long Island City.

There were reports that power briefly went out twice within about 15 minutes.

“My mom and I were talking in the kitchen and suddenly the lights went out,” wrote one X resident.

“We both just stared at each other wondering what the hell happened.” “Thanks for scaring the shit out of me and back, ConEd.”
