Blackhawks approve first choice

The Chicago Blackhawks signed defenseman Kevin Korchinski to a three-year entry-level contract Wednesday after picking seventh overall in the National Hockey League (NHL) draft.

The 18-year-old Canadian makes $950,000 a year playing in the NHL.

Korchinski had a real breakthrough in the Western Junior Hockey League (WHL) in 2021-22. With the Seattle Thunderbirds, he scored four goals in 67 games and was an accomplice on 61 goals for a total of 65 points. He also showed a difference of +36.

Notably, he helped his team reach the playoff finals in which the Edmonton Oil Kings were crowned champions in six games. In the playoffs, he had six goals and 19 points in 25 games.
