Damian Lillard has asked to be traded from the Portland Trail Blazers and coach Chauncey Billups has something to say about it.
The Portland Trail Blazers are in a transition period as Damian Lillard requests a trade and Scoot Henderson comes into play as the No. 3 overall pick in this year’s NBA draft.
One link that can bridge the Blazers’ past and future is coach Chauncey Billups, who offered his insight into Lillard’s trade request.
“I have a very, very close relationship with Dame” Said Billups about Rose Garden Report’s Sean Highkin. “He’s in a situation right now where he has to make decisions about what’s best for his career and his life. These decisions are not just about basketball.”
As a former player, Billups has that empathy with Lillard and the two have grown close as a point guard and player over the past two years. Billups also came on just before Joe Cronin became general manager, replacing Neil Olshey. Billups appeared to support Cronin given his position.
“Joe is handling the situation really well,” said Billups. “It’s just professional sport. As a coach, I will do the same.”
