Thursday’s rush hour will be particularly difficult in the greater Montreal area due to heavy snowfalls aided by high winds causing blowing snow.
Snow accumulations could reach 10 centimeters on the ground in southwestern Quebec or as much as 20 centimeters in border areas of the United States by Friday morning.
According to Environment Canada forecasts, the Montreal, Montérégie and Laval sectors could experience slippery roads and severely reduced visibility.
“The combination of snow and strong winds will result in widespread blowing snow and severely limit visibility in these areas beginning Thursday morning,” the federal agency expected.
Strong winds will also sweep all sectors of the river valley, as well as the Capitale-Nationale, with gusts of up to 60 km/h during the day on Thursday.
Elsewhere in Quebec, the federal agency is forecasting some snow in the province’s center, particularly in Estrie, and an alternation of sun and clouds, particularly in the east.
In terms of temperature, it will be cold almost everywhere with -12 degrees in Montreal and -15 degrees in Quebec, while the extreme cold warning is still in effect in the north.
