Blue Jackets Billy Sweezey drops the gloves and his dad

Blue Jackets: Billy Sweezey drops the gloves and his dad is proud!

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Billy Sweezey dropped his gloves in his third NHL game Thursday against the Boston Bruins, and the least we can say is his toughness pleased his dad, who was in the stands.

The 27-year-old full-back threw the gloves past striker Jakub Lauko early in the second half and while the duel was fairly even, fatherly Ken clearly got off to a good start.

Sweezey senior, beer in hand in the stands, was caught by cameras immediately after the duel, raising his fist in celebration of his son’s performance.

This isn’t the only fight that’s been traversing the internet in this meeting. Bruins tough guy Trent Frederic had it all with striker Lane Pederson… and things didn’t go as planned for him.

Frederic ended the fight with a single, powerful right-hand punch.

The Bruins won the game 2-1 in overtime.
