Blue Jays: very rare victory against the Orioles

On a rare occasion in 2023, the Toronto Blue Jays found a way to defeat the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night at Oriole Park in Camden Yards.

Manager John Schneider’s men needed a 10th inning to win 6-3. It was only the third time in 11 games this season that the Jays defeated the East Division leaders. “American.” Check out the highlights above.

It was a home run by Brandon Belt that gave the visitors the tie in the extra inning. The designated hitter dislodged a Mike Baumann shot 417 feet from home plate while Bo Bichette was already on the trails.

The Orioles shooter then allowed the Blue Jays a slightly more comfortable cushion. He missed one of his shots and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. took the opportunity to step on the plate.

With a three-point lead on protection, Jordan Romano got the job done. The endgame specialist made two strikeouts on his 31st save of the campaign.

Early in the game, in the second inning, Daulton Varsho hit a bomb that went for two runs. It was his 16th home run of 2023.

This win against one of Major League Baseball’s best teams this year keeps the Blue Jays in the middle of the wild card race. Before the evening’s games, Canada’s only major league team was a game behind the Seattle Mariners. The latter currently occupy the last spot that allows access to the playoffs in the United States.

The Blue Jays and Orioles meet for the second of a three-game series in Maryland on Wednesday.

DeJong in San Francisco

Previously, shortstop Paul DeJong had signed with the San Francisco Giants.

The veteran was selected for action by the Blue Jays on Saturday. The Toronto organization took over the St. Louis Cardinals on August 1 after Bichette suffered a knee injury.

However, DeJong did not impress anyone in the Jays’ camp. In 13 games, he had a lousy .068 batting average. He only had three hits and drove in a single run.
