BMW M2 2023 up to six versions in the program

BMW M2 (2023) up to six versions in the program?

Two types of gears, two types of gearboxes or even two types of shields, the future BMW M2 Type G87 has never raked so far. Even before it hits the market in 2023, we can already say that it will end an era in style.

The second generation of the BMW M2, presented in October 2022, known internally under the code G87, will be launched in April 2023. with an in-line six-cylinder petrol engine, the power of which is transmitted exclusively to the rear wheels. The entry-level motorsport catalog will benefit from the 3.0-liter biturbo block of its big sisters, the M3 and M4 with, hierarchy obliges, fewer horses under the hood. BMW says the new M2 will be on par with the current CS version, so we can reasonably expect to see around 460bhp.

A perfect recipe for purists who will enjoy their M2 even more with a 6-speed manual than with the 8-speed M Steptronic automatic gearbox reserved for certain markets. Two versions formalized by the propeller brand. But the layout of the range is not limited to this choice between two types of boxes. Just like its big sisters BMW M3 and BMW M4 The small BMW M2 will be available in a 4×4 version with xDrive transmission, a first in this range. This has become essential to civilizing the beast and attracting a wider clientele. As a “rival”, the Audi RS3 offers a drift mode which, if the driver mainly wants to have fun on the circuit, leaves the quattro for a while and switches the power to the rear axle or even to a high proportion to one of the wheels on the rear axle. The BMW M2 goes the opposite way with reassuring all-wheel drive. According to information published by the specialized website Bimmerpost, technical diagram in support, the system is strictly identical to that of the M3 and M4 and can withstand up to 1,300 Nm of torque. The clearance is very important as the M2 will have 600Nm at best in the original configuration.

Two faces for the BMW M2?

Carefully camouflaged by the brand, the BMW M2 also formalized its 100% digital dashboard as well as its different driving modes during its test drive at the Salzburgring in Austria. For the time being, the manufacturer has reserved another possible variant, this time cosmetic. The side air intakes of the front bumper can collect perfectly horizontal slats, as the official pictures of the BMW M2 easily suggest. Or angled fins, as evidenced by a prototype whose photo was published on the Instagram account itsmo911. Probably to distinguish the basic BMW M2 from the competition version… To be continued.
