This was announced by the formation of the National Hockey League (NHL) on Sunday, without revealing the financial details of the 27-year-old athlete’s new contract.
The Islanders acquired Horvat from the Vancouver Canucks last Monday for forwards Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty and a 2023 first-round pick.
Horvat still hasn’t played in an Islanders jersey. He should have his baptism of fire on Monday night when his new team takes on the Flyers in Philadelphia.
The skater, who could have become an unrestricted free agent next summer, is enjoying a fantastic 2022-2023 season. In 49 games, he hit 31 goals and provided 23 assists for 54 points. At the end of the season he gets eight more points, it will be his best season of his career.
Horvat was selected in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2013 draft and played nearly nine seasons with the Canucks, where he had captained since 2019-20.
