Body found in Quebec: Remains had been in river for some time

A body was found in the St. Lawrence River near Beauport Bay on Wednesday evening. He had probably been there for quite a while, authorities said.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) was called to intervene around 7 p.m. when the victim was seen swimming about 2.5 kilometers from shore.

The body was recovered by authorities and was in an advanced state of decomposition. Provincial police say we have no way of knowing if it is a man or a woman.

“An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death and the formal identity of the individual,” said Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokeswoman for the SQ.

The body was sent to the Montreal Forensic Science and Medicine Laboratory for analysis.
