Body-positive influencer called her a “hypocrite” for editing her Instagram photos and figure

Body positive influencer Karina Irby was “caught” editing her Instagram photos, despite urging her followers not to do so.

Social media whiz John Dorsey shared a series of videos this week in which he called Karina, the owner of the Moana Bikini brand and 1.2million followers, a “hypocrite”.

Dorsey said he was taken aback to discover that she had Photoshopped her content, especially since her “whole brand is built around being authentic.”

However, Karina hit back at the claims on Thursday, telling Chron Australia that while she has “changed slightly in the past” she has “come a long way” since.

The model said she believes she’s one of “the most open, honest, and transparent social media creators of 2023.”

She added that Dorsey’s posts “are designed to incite hatred towards me, bully me and put me down”.

“That has to be the highest level of hypocrisy I’ve ever encountered in these stories,” Dorsey began in a clip.

“She’s known for encouraging girls not to edit their photos and not get rid of their cellulite … She says be the change you want to see.” “I’m the change I want to see,” said he before emphasizing that their editing failed.

Dorsey pointed out warped walls and distorted backgrounds in her photos – including the metal of her shower warping in one. However, Karina still posts her cellulite on the internet.

“Why do I say she’s a hypocrite? “Well Karina, it looks like you tucked in your waist in that case… the metal in your shower is bending… because you edited your ass to be bigger.”

“Do you remember this photo? Look in the corner. You cooked it, the corner is bent!’ he added.

“Karina, I’m disappointed in you. You’ve built a whole brand on being real, but you’re not real.’ The caption says it’s dangerous for body image, but you do it anyway, do it better!’

He also shared an old statement in which she said she wasn’t “proud” of her “old edits,” just eight hours before she edited a before-and-after photo that had the background changed.

He said an old associate of Karina’s also got in touch and told him she had Photoshopped her social media pictures.

Karina told Chron Australia on Thursday that it was “staged drama” and that she has long been open about her “journey when it comes to self-love and acceptance on her social media.”

“When you look at my content—posts, reels, stories—it’s very obvious that you’re looking at the authentic, unedited, unfiltered version of me.” “It can get on some people’s nerves,” she said.

“That’s why I’m more focused on TikTok videos as it’s a more authentic and transparent place.”

“Being in the public eye for years and having strangers tell me I’m ugly, I’m fat, I have bad skin, I had to work, etc. can be a drain on a person.” I talk a lot about online bullying because it has impacted me in the past.”

Karina said she tried to speak to Dorsey but claimed he was trying to “bully” her.

“I tried to be frank and verbal with the person who runs this account, but they weren’t interested in talking,” she said.

KARINA’S STATEMENT COMPLETE

“I’ve admitted that I’ve edited myself lightly in the past (years ago), and I’ve been more than open about my path when it comes to self-love and acceptance on my social media.”

I’ve come a long way since then – as have many other YouTubers and social media in general.

I would argue that I am one of the most open, honest and transparent social media creators in 2023.

When you look at my content – posts, reels, stories – it’s pretty obvious that you’re looking at the authentic, unedited and unfiltered version of me. Which can annoy some people.

Because of this, I focus more on TikTok videos as it is a more authentic and transparent place.

Being in the public eye and having strangers tell me for years that I’m ugly, that I’m fat, that I have bad skin, that I had to work, etc. can take a toll on a person.

This is why I speak a lot about online bullying as it has impacted me in the past.

I tried to speak frankly and verbally with the person who runs this account, but they were not interested in talking.

It is obviously not in the nature of this person’s contribution to have an open/honest dialogue, they are only here to hate, bully and put me down.

Basically, he’s a clout chaser and enjoys bullying someone he doesn’t know about.

For example, he went so far as to take a picture from four years ago and say that I whitened my walls. In fact, we had our house painted white in June 2021.

It’s a little weird when you see how much effort people go to – and the things they create in their heads – when all they want to do is bring someone down and get sued for their hate posts.

Luckily, I have such a powerful audience of customers, friends and the community of our brands – Moana Bikini and The Moana Smile Club – that can see through all of this orchestrated drama.

Luckily for me – but unlucky for the next girl – I’m sure he’ll choose someone else to make him feel big and strong behind his phone’s screen.”

“Clearly the nature of this person’s contribution is not to have an open/honest dialogue and they are only here to incite hatred towards me, bully me and put me down.”

While Irby emphasized that she “didn’t have a disorder,” she said her relationship with food and exercise was unhealthy at the time and that her desire to stay slim was motivated by a distorted belief that it was the only way to be popular.

She previously said she’d been trolled and received death threats for sharing pictures of her cellulite, but hit back, saying, “If my cellulite upsets you that much, then the problem is you.”

She added, “I could just stop posting and get upset about it, but that’s not me.”
