Bolivia steps up fight against dengue in Santa Cruz

“We have seen an increase in cases and a suspicious lack of attention to this issue from the department’s health service,” Health and Sport Minister Jeyson Auza said.

The headline shared that for this reason a strategy was coordinated and designed between his portfolio and that of Defense on behalf of President Luis Arce.

“Tomorrow in Santa Cruz we will deploy a gigantic mobilization called Dengue Health Defense Shields,” Auza reiterated at a press conference held with Deputy Minister of Defense and Cooperation for Integral Development Augusto García and members of the armed forces was offered powers.

He explained that from the Cambódromo, more than five thousand people, including health professionals, military personnel and civilians, will carry out a comprehensive intervention to control the epidemic dengue outbreak through the elimination of mosquito breeding sites, the application of biological larvicides and fumigation under other things in coordination with the municipalities.

Given the available documents, the Minister recalled that 53 days ago, given the increase in dengue cases in the municipalities of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, San Julián, San Pedro and Yapacaní, the Ministry of Health had asked the Departmental Service (Headquarters) Cruceño to assume its responsibilities and he did not do it.

“Similarly (…) analyzing the epidemiological behavior, the Santa Cruz government and the headquarters were reminded of the need to intervene in the prioritized communities, in accordance with their powers, for the development of comprehensive campaigns that allow the reduction of mosquito breeding grounds and rodents, an aspect that has once again been neglected,” lamented Auza.

He pointed out that in an irresponsible political health management, the Santa Cruz governorate only issued the epidemiological alert on Jan. 26 after Santa Cruz had reported 1,140 cases and four deaths due to dengue.

This type of decision constitutes a fundamental tool of the headquarters and allows the intensification of epidemiological surveillance activities, patient care and prevention and control activities in endemic communities.

Auza invited the people of Santa Cruz to participate in this activity to quickly eliminate the disease and reiterated that the national government has never abandoned it to protect their health.
