La Paz, June 8 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia is preparing today to step up measures to support “vulnerable populations” affected by Covid-19, after a 500 million loan the previous day in the Chamber of Deputies dollars was approved.
Development Planning Minister Sergio Cusicanqui defended the importance of the Inter-American Development Bank loan in the plenary session of lawmakers.
Speaking to MEPs, he explained that this could encourage initiatives such as replacing part of the cost of the bond against hunger and strengthen the health system.
According to officials, this foreign exchange injection will help ensure a minimum quality of life for vulnerable people in the face of the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and will help reduce morbidity and mortality caused by SARS-CoV. 2 virus and reduce the indirect health effects of the disease.
Government sources point to five development axes within this program.
They serve to secure the minimum income level of people affected by the disease in the immediate period and during recovery.
Other goals also include: Strengthening country-level response management, improving case detection and follow-up; Support initiatives to disrupt the chain of transmission of the SARS-Cov-2 virus and improve performance.
The rationale for the loan approval project states: “The favorable development of the solvency and liquidity indicators registered from October 2022 reflects the country’s debt capacity and its sustainability over time.”
The text, approved by the House of Commons, has been sent to the Senate for further consideration and approval.
Cusicanqui anticipated that in the health sector, for example, digital medical records would be introduced and the network of reference laboratories would be strengthened through the purchase of consumables, equipment and reagents for 27 laboratories.
