The Itamaraty command could be changed again before the end of the elections. President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) would demonstrate with the portfolio’s positions in the face of international discussions, including the United Nations (UN) Security Council. According to Veja, Chancellor Carlos Alberto França may have his portfolio days ahead.

The Chief Executive began hearing from key figures and those close to him on the subject, and the situation worsened in recent weeks when Brazil failed to follow Arab countries in the resolution condemning terrorist actions in the Middle East. Bolsonaro was charged and had not even been briefed on the matter by the Chancellor.

The Itamaraty’s decision caused a small crisis between Brazil and the Arab countries, important trading partners for buyers of halal food, mainly proteins. Then the Planalto Palace sent Admiral Flávio Rocha, Special Secretary for Strategic Affairs, to the United Arab Emirates to assuage the uneasiness that had arisen.

Brazil will defend Russia’s presence in the G20, Carlos Alberto França said this week. This is the attitude taken by Economy Minister Paulo Guedes at the meetings of the G20, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington this week. “We have already clearly expressed our position to the G20 to allow Russia to participate in the summit of heads of state and government. Excluding Russia does not address the real issue, which is the conflict,” the minister said at a press conference with World Trade Organization (WTO) DirectorGeneral Nigerian Ngozi OkonjoIweala.

Brazil has allied itself with the great powers and voted at the UN to “condemn” Russia. “She is deeply concerned about Russian military operations against targets on Ukrainian territory.” Brazil has been a nonpermanent member of the Security Council since the beginning of the year.

Bolsonaro made a diplomatic trip to Russia before the start of the conflict with Ukraine in the phase of escalating tensions. Last Wednesday (April 20), the Psol deputies filed a request for the Chancellor to be summoned to explain to the chamber’s plenary session how confidential documents relating to the President’s trip to the country should be kept secret.
