A United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Vancouver was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger on board made a bomb threat.
Sources at San Francisco International Airport told local media that a passenger aboard flight UA1909 made a bomb threat Monday evening that officials quickly realized was not credible.
Investigators are said to have spoken to passengers who were on board the flight.
Officials said the plane, which was carrying 156 passengers and crew, still had to make an emergency landing despite the bomb threat being deemed unreliable.
Flight UA1909, an Airbus A320, made an unexpected loop around 7 p.m. Monday evening and flew to San Francisco, just an hour after taking off from Los Angeles.

A United Airlines spokesperson told Web: “United Flight 1909 was diverted to San Francisco this evening due to a possible safety issue on board.”
“The flight landed safely and was met by local law enforcement.” We are working to get our customers to their final destination as quickly as possible.
This comes after Ryanair passengers were forced to seek shelter in a barn after a bomb attack at a French airport caused travel chaos.
Families preparing to board a Ryanair flight from Bergerac to London Stansted were ushered into cold and damp farm buildings loaded with tractors and equipment.
It is understood that the departure had already been delayed due to a technical problem with the aircraft when the bomb scare occurred.
A Ryanair source blamed a “false security threat” and confirmed that “passengers were temporarily transferred to a nearby facility while the airport was screened.”
