The agency said the three attackers, who opened fire on worshipers and security forces from a car, were “takfiri terrorists,” the term used for fighters from Sunni extremist groups like Islamic State. Two of them were arrested, the third is still being sought, the police said.

According to another Iranian outlet, Nour, they are not Iranian nationals. This attack on the Shah Tcheragh shrine in Shiraz took place while numerous demonstrations were being organized in Iran to mark the fortieth anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death, at the origin of the protest movement that is rocking Iran.
