BRUSSELS “After two years of hard work, we have a plan and this plan is the strategic compass for common defense. But the plans must be implemented, otherwise they are useless. That is the challenge and it is not going to be easy, but we have a commitment from the Member States with a clear timetable. I will ensure that the promises are kept”, EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borell said at a meeting with a group of international newspapers, including ANSA.

“Nobody talks about a European army, the Strategic Compass doesn’t deal with that. We will continue to have 27 separate armies. But compared to the current situation, there is some news: updated battlegroups and military modules composed of member countries to “fish” from to build this European rapid reaction force, we’re talking about 5,000 units, but it can be more or less better suited to respond to a certain specific challenge”.

This was stated by the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borell, at a meeting with a group of international newspapers, including ANSA. In addition, the EU will equip itself with a kind of “general staff or rather a “command and control structure based in Brussels.
