Boxing: Mary Spencer will have her rematch

Canadian boxer Mary Spencer will seek revenge on Femke Hermans in a fight for the vacant IBF 154-pound belt on October 11 at the Cabaret du Casino de Montreal.

The 38-year-old pugilist suffered a defeat on her last outing on December 16 in Shawinigan. Hermans (16-4-0, 7 KOs) won via unanimous decision to capture the IBO World Champion title. This time, Spencer (7-1-0, 5 KOs) has no plans to relive such a scenario against the Belgian.

“I’m really excited about the chance to fight for the IBF World Championship title and I have to say that it gives me extra motivation to face Femke Hermans again. “I have confidence and know that with the work I’ve done in the gym so far and in the coming weeks at the end of my training camp, I will be the most prepared version of myself,” she said in a statement from her promoter Eye of Tiger Management (EOTTM).

Also, the maple leaf athlete says he’s made some changes to his work habits. She also has a new coach, Samuel Décarie-Drolet.

“Every day I try to take Mary to hell because that’s what Hermans did to her in their last fight,” he said. The training units are demanding and you constantly push your limits. The difference is that when Hermans wants to take her to Hell, Mary will feel right at home, and she not only knows how to handle the music, but also leads the dance.

Since her victory in Mauricie, Hermans has twice defended her IBO title by knockout against Katarina Vistica and Maria Lindberg.

The full menu of this gala will be announced at a later date, but according to EOTTM, Erik Bazinyan, Wilkens Mathieu and Leïla Beaudoin will be in particular.
