A “high altitude” brawl has forced the pilot of a Ryanair plane flying from the UK to the Canary Islands to divert the flight to Portugal, to the fear and dismay of passengers. According to initial reconstructions, seven people were involved, all of English nationality.

The fight

The plane was due to reach Lanzarote at 12.15pm local time and had to divert to Portugal due to a fight on board.

According to initial reconstructions, seven people on the Ryanair flight from London to the Canary Islands were involved in an argument so violent that the pilot decided to change route and land at Faro Airport in Portugal's Algarve region.

Portuguese police said one person was arrested while awaiting a statement from the airline. According to The Sun, the seven passengers involved were all British.
