Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was discharged from hospital on Friday, September 15, three days after undergoing a series of surgical procedures on his digestive system and respiratory system, according to images on local television. A medical bulletin published on social networks by Fabio Wajngarten, a close associate of Bolsonaro, reports an “excellent recovery” of the former far-right leader. Images from CNN Brasil show Jair Bolsonaro leaving the Vila Nova Star hospital in São Paulo at around 1:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. in France).

He greeted a group of supporters gathered at the hospital gate and then climbed into a vehicle with tinted windows. On Tuesday, the ex-president underwent an upper digestive tract endoscopy to treat a “gastric reflux” problem, a “septoplasty” to correct a deviated nasal septum and other procedures in the mouth and nose area.

Operated several times

Jair Bolsonaro has had to undergo several surgeries in recent years following the aftermath of a knife attack during the 2018 presidential campaign, which he ultimately won. He was stabbed in the stomach by an unbalanced person in the middle of a crowd and subsequently suffered numerous complications, including intestinal obstruction, hernias and tissue adhesions. The ex-president, who failed in his re-election attempt against Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in October, is the subject of several investigations.

One of them concerns the alleged embezzlement of gifts from abroad during his term in office (2019-2022), including jewelry offered by Saudi Arabia. He was also sentenced at the end of June to an eight-year ban for spreading false information in the electronic voting system before his defeat by Lula.
