247 The Brazilian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Friday evening (5) expressing concern over statements by the Israeli authorities about the emigration of the Palestinian population from the Gaza Strip to other countries, according to the Sputnik agency.

According to the note, the Brazilian government noted the statements “with concern” and stressed that such proposals violate international law. Brazil reiterated its support for the twostate solution, in which an economically viable Palestinian state coexists peacefully with Israel within mutually agreed and internationally recognized borders.

The statements that caused concern in Brazil were made on December 31 by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, suggesting that the Palestinians should leave the Gaza Strip to allow Israeli development of the territory. Israel's Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, also referred to the territorial expropriation of the Palestinians in statements.

Sources consulted by Sputnik suggest that Israel is planning to “relocate” thousands of Palestinians to areas bordering the Gaza Strip, such as Egypt. The Israeli ministers' statements were rejected by the international community, including the United Nations.
