Brazil recorded 106 deaths from the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours, bringing the country’s total deaths from the pandemic to 660,108, the Health Ministry reported on April 2.
17,062 new cases were also registered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections registered since the virus arrived in the country to 29,992,227.
The data published this Saturday does not include that of the state of Ceará (Northeast).
Brazil is the second country in the world with the most deaths from COVID-19, surpassed only by the United States, and third in terms of the number of infections behind the United States and India.
The death rate due to COVID-19 in Brazil as of this Saturday was 314.1 cases per 100,000 people, while the incidence rate was 14,272 per 100,000 people.
As of Friday, 160.8 million people (representing 74.86 percent of the country’s population) have completed their COVID-19 vaccination schedule with two doses or a single dose, while 77.9 million (36.27 percent of the population) have received booster doses and 175 .7 million (81.83 percent of the population) are partially immunized with one dose, according to the local press count based on official data.
