Taylor Swift said she was “overwhelmed with grief” Friday night after a fan died during her concert in Brazil as part of her “Eras Tour.”
“I can’t believe I’m writing these words, but with a broken heart I say we lost a fan tonight, before my concert. “I can’t tell you how devastated I am about this,” the singer said in an Instagram Story.
The just 23-year-old “Swiftie” – Ana Clara Benevides – was near the railing when she felt unwell due to the heat, Brazilian media Folha reported. The latter would then have suffered a cardiac arrest. After being resuscitated at the scene, she suffered a second resuscitation – this time fatal – during transport to hospital.
“Last night, Ana Clara was not feeling well and she was quickly treated by the brigade team and the paramedics,” said the producer of the show in Brazil, Tickets for Fun, on Instagram on Saturday morning, before sending his condolences to the young woman’s family friends.
While the city of Rio de Janeiro reported a temperature of 60 degrees on Friday, firefighters said they counted nearly 1,000 people unconscious during the show.
“There is very little information that I have other than the fact that she was incredibly beautiful and way too young,” Taylor Swift stressed before sharing her thoughts with the young fan’s relatives.
“I won’t be able to talk about it on stage because every time I try to talk about it I’m overwhelmed with grief,” the singer added.
