Brazilian army orders thousands of doses of sexual stimulants

The army denies using erection problems. The drug should also be used for high blood pressure in the lungs. However, ridicule is guaranteed.

The Brazilian army apparently ordered thousands of doses of sexual stimulants. Deputy Elias Vaz said on Monday that he learned through a freedom of information request that the government of President Jair Bolsonaro had authorized an order for 35,000 erectile dysfunction pills for the Armed Forces.

“Our hospitals do not have enough medicine, and Bolsonaro and his people are using public money to buy the blue pill,” said the opposition lawmaker, referring to the well-known sex enhancer Viagra. Viagra is not mentioned by name in the documents he received. However, it was called Sildenfil, Viagra’s active ingredient, explained the MP.

The Defense Ministry explained that the pills are actually meant to “treat patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension” or high pressure in the lungs – another use of sildenafil.

Is there also corruption?

This did not stop the mockery of netizens. Caricatures showing tanks with hanging weapons circulated on Twitter. “Some say these pills are designed to help the military further fuck up democracy,” wrote the satirical website Sensationalist. Bolsonaro is a former captain in the Armed Forces and often speaks positively about Brazil’s military dictatorship from 1964 to 1985.

Left-wing deputies Marcelo Freixo and Elias Vaz, in turn, said they would ask prosecutors to analyze the sex pills bill. They said there was evidence that the government had been overburdened by as much as 143% – a possible sign of corruption.
