Brazilian prosecutors charged with accessing private data related to the coup

Such a request from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) is signed by the Coordinator of the Strategic Group to Combat Anti-Democratic Acts of the Federal Ministry of Public Power (MPF), Deputy Attorney General Carlos Frederico Santos.

The document requests access to banking information of ICC targets and Frederico Santos argues that the data is essential for the MPF to continue investigating the case.

According to Senator Gama’s press office, the request has been forwarded to the ICC Secretariat and the data must be submitted to the PGR soon.

The members of the commission submitted the final report to other bodies, including the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and the Union Attorney General, who, like the PGR, announced that they would continue the issue.

The content was approved by the Commission on October 18 and sent to the Federal Police, the Union Court of Auditors and several investigative organizations.

The purpose is to carry out the investigation, as the expert can only suggest tests and calculations.

The text, prepared by Gama, calls for the criminal prosecution of 61 people, including former President Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022).

In addition to Bolsonaro, the list includes generals Walter Braga Netto, Augusto Heleno, Luiz Eduardo Ramos, Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, Marco Antonio Freire Gomes, Ridauto Lúcio Fernandes, Carlos Feitosa Rodrigues and Carlos José Penteado.

Also the former commander of the Navy, Admiral Garnier Santos, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid (former assistant to Bolsonaro), the former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres and the former Director General of the Federal Highway Police Silvinei Vasques.

The content demands that Bolsonaro be accused of crimes of criminal organization, attempting to forcibly abolish the democratic rule of law, deposing a legally formed government and applying measures to prevent the free exercise of political rights.

“Democracy has been attacked. The masses were manipulated with hate speech. “Digital militiamen were used to spread fear, disqualify opponents and promote attacks on the electoral system,” Gama denounced when reading out the report.

Calling for military intervention and rejecting President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s takeover of power, extremist groups supporting the far-right politician invaded and looted the headquarters of the National Congress, the STF and the presidential office on January 8.
