It’s unclear if Gov. Doug Burgum, 67, will be on the debate stage Wednesday night after he was taken to the emergency room in Milwaukee, Wisconsin after suffering a basketball injury.
While playing a short game with his staff on Tuesday, the North Dakota governor injured himself and required medical attention, a source familiar with the situation told CNN.
They added that it was not known if Burgum would be able to take the stage at the first GOP primary debate at Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum Arena on Wednesday.
Burgum is one of eight candidates who made it onto the stage by completing the poll and donor requirements and signing the RNC pledge to support the eventual nominee.

During a Sunday interview with NBC News, Burgum said he believes the debate will be a success “if we get a chance to explain who we are, what we’re about and why we’re running.”
Burgum, who is currently serving his second term as North Dakota governor, announced his 2024 presidential nomination in June. He has significantly less notoriety than others competing for the Republican nomination.
The seven other candidates on Wednesday’s stage are Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and former Arkansas Governor.
