An explosion at a correctional facility in California resulted in four officers being hospitalized.

Around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, an explosion was reported at a mobile training facility at the Pitchess Detention Center, also known as Wayside Jail.

According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, the facility reportedly caught fire and imprisoned police officers who were undergoing firearms training.

The office described the fire as a “training accident.”

Four people were transported to area hospitals by other officers.

Two officers reportedly suffered serious burns and the other two sustained minor injuries.

It was reported that a mobile firing range caught fire while officers were there undergoing firearms training.

Overhead footage showed fire trucks extinguishing flames at the facility, located in the 29300 block of Old Road in Castaic.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department also reported a fire at a shooting range and took up “defensive positions” in the area, according to radio traffic.
