Before Cássia Kis caused an uproar behind the scenes of Travessia because of her political position, she got into trouble with another costar. The episode happened at the time when the actress was starring in Sabor da Paixão (2002).

Adding to the series’ small audience, the soap opera has had tumultuous behindthescenes moments due to a battle between two veteran performers: Cássia Kis and Pedro Paulo Rangel. The actor left us on the 21st at the age of 74.

The two, who played prominent roles in the story, had to maintain their presence in front of the cameras. This whole story came to light years after the series aired in a revealing interview with Cássia.

“Pedro Paulo Rangel is an actor I adore. If they asked me “An actor you like?” I would say “Pedro Paulo Rangel”. It was like that for a long time. We were romantic partners on the soap opera Sabor da Paixão and overnight he stopped talking to me,” she said in a statement to TPM magazine in 2009.

According to the actress, the two have not spoken to each other up to this point.

“I never knew why. I could have gone to him and said, ‘I need to know what happened. One does not suddenly stop talking to the other. But since I see no reason for it, only such gossip goes through my head. It’s a flea behind the ear that accompanies me to this day,” he added.

To add to the embarrassment, Cássia played Cecília, the owner of a bar in the neighborhood of Lapa, in the series. After becoming the widow of Miguel (Lima Duarte), the businesswoman has a maturing romance with her employee, waiter Vicente, played by Rangel. He, who was illiterate, learns to read with the help of his boss, with whom he had a happy ending at the end of the job.

“You don’t know what it’s like when someone stops talking to you overnight. Working with you, making a romantic match. As if that wasn’t enough, there was still the issue of inconvenience. It’s driving me crazy. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll meet Pedro Paulo, old lady, and he’ll tell me. We meet one day, people change,” the actress concluded.

And the telenovela in question wasn’t the first nor the only time that Cássia Kis and Pedro Paulo Rangel played together. The two actors were part of the cast of the telenovelas Vale Tudo (1988), Pecado Capital (1998) and Amor Eterno Amor (2012).

Sabor da Paixão (pictured above) was written by Ana Maria Moretzsohn, born of two works with good impact on Globo Esplendor (2000) and EstrelaGuia (2001) a soap opera that aired between September 2002 at six o’clock was and March 2003.

Despite the interesting premise and clean production, the storyline was rated poorly with a final average of 24 points. It was then considered the worst in the history of soap operas, the end of which was brought forward by a month.
