Breeze Airways is adding 1 new city in a wider 22 route expansion

Breeze Airways announced Tuesday that Portland, Maine, is its newest destination. The city is part of a broader expansion with 22 routes.

Breeze will begin service in Portland on May 17, when it will launch the first of four routes. Through June 2, Breeze flies non-stop from Portland to Charleston, South Carolina; Norfolk, VA; Pittsburgh; and Tampa.

Breeze is the startup low-cost airline launched in May 2021 by David Neeleman, the serial aviation entrepreneur who also helped launch JetBlue, Canada’s WestJet and Brazil’s Azul. Its newest airline’s business model is based on adding non-stop flights on routes where passengers currently have to transfer.

“Portland is our premier destination in Maine and is a great addition to the route network,” Neeleman said in a statement. “We’re always looking for new routes that people are driving today but can’t consistently reach.”

In addition to Portland, Breeze added a mix of new routes through 19 other cities.

Other cities that received the latest service in Tuesday’s announcement were Pittsburgh and Providence, Rhode Island. Each landed Breeze flights to four new cities.
