The role in The Whale is Fraser’s first major role in 12 years.

Movie star Brendan Fraser delivered an emotional acceptance speech after winning Best Actor at the Critics’ Choice Awards for The Whale.

“I was in the desert. And I probably should have left a trail of crumbs. But you found me,” he told the film’s director, Darren Aronofsky.

The ‘The Mummy’ actor was praised for his role as a morbidly obese and depressed man, his first major role in 12 years.

Fraser was a cult star in the ’90s, starring in films like The Mummy, George of the Jungle and Journey to the Center of the Earth. However, due to health issues brought on by excessive filming, Fraser long disappeared from the big screen, where he only played supporting roles on television, he revealed to GQ Magazine in 2018.

Expectations are high that Fraser will snag an Oscar nomination this month..

“If you — a guy like Charlie, who I played in the film — suffer from obesity in any way, or just feel like you’re in a dark sea, I want you to know that, if you too can have the power to up.” and go light, good things will happen to you,” Fraser said to a standing ovation.

“This movie ‘The Whale’ is about love. It’s about redemption. It’s about finding the light in a dark place.”

“And I’m so proud to be able to work with such an amazing cast,” he added, citing his castmates including Hong Chau and Sadie Sink.
