WWE recently filed a trademark for “Lexis King,” and then word got out that Brian Pillman Jr. would be given that name before he got on TV. Well, that was largely true – he was actually given that name, but they actually had him appear on NXT television this week to explain why:
“Everywhere I go, people stop and tell me, ‘Man, I loved your dad.’ He was such a trailblazer.’ It seems like everyone has such fond memories of my dad. Now you know who doesn’t? Me, his own damn son.
“I lost him when I was just four years old. I do not know him. And you’d think being a WWE superstar would be the last thing I’d want to be, and you’d be right. And believe me, I tried. I’ve tried everything. I tried football and lacrosse, heck, I even got a college degree. But this industry has been in my blood since I was born and I have never been able to escape it. I have no choice but to accept it. I have no choice but to inflict pain on the business that has caused me so much pain. But when they see that face, I don’t want them to think of my dead father, but of me.
“I am no one’s Jr. And from this day forward I will take the last name of the real man who raised me, the real father figure in my life. And his name was King, and now it is mine too.”
This is both a great explanation for why he won’t be attending Brian Pillman Jr. and a damn good advertisement to hype his arrival. Even Corey Graves was impressed enough public acknowledge him.
We still don’t know exactly when he’ll show up, but it’s obviously soon.
