Jamie Lee Komoroski’s blood alcohol concentration was more than three times higher than the legal limit when her Toyota rental car crashed into a golf cart Samantha “Sam” Hutchinson, 34, and Aric Hutchinson, 36, were in as they were leaving their wedding reception.
The 25-year-old, who according to the police was traveling at around 105 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, was allegedly so drunk that she looked confused when the police arrived.
That’s according to a police report on the horrific incident that took place in the beautiful beach town of Folly Beach on Folly Island, South Carolina, and was filed by Folly Beach Police Sergeant Zac Halpern. As the Mirror previously reported, Sam’s husband Aric woke up in hospital after fighting for his life in critical condition in the accident and is now preparing for his beloved wife’s funeral.
In an update today, police revealed that Komoroski, a former waitress at a taco restaurant, had a BAK score of 0.261 and the accident report states that he admitted to having had two drinks – a pineapple tequila and a beer – an hour before the accident.
Sergeant Halpern reports that he asked her on a scale of one to ten how drunk she was and heard her murmur a reply saying she was at eight. The woman then asked for a lawyer and refused when the first police officers tried to give her a drink driving test.
According to the police report, Komoroski began crying for her boyfriend, apparently trying to hide his eyes. Sergeant Halpern noted that Komoroski was having trouble standing, but claimed he was fine when police tried to get her out of the car to examine her balance. The sergeant reported that Komoroski looked dazed.
It was said that she would start screaming for her boyfriend at any moment and then look at the rubble and scream. Sergeant Halpern pointed out in his report that the officer who arrested Komoroski was forced to repeat the reason for the arrest three times, as the woman refused to get into the police car and looked confused.
Sergeant Halpern wrote: ‘This is a clear indication that someone is drunk; it keeps repeating itself after the question has already been answered. Komoroski remains in detention and has been refused bail. She is charged with three counts of drunk driving resulting in death or serious bodily harm and manslaughter.
