Britain makes final preparations for King Charles III’s coronation; Cash
The desire to witness a historic event filled the sidewalks of the British capital. London is all dressed up, bright, spoiled and of course ready.
The last coronation ceremony was in 1953 when the young Elizabeth II became queen. Charles was there, at his mother’s side at the age of four. Now, seven decades later, it’s his turn.
Charles III is already king, he took over the post as soon as his mother died eight months ago. The coronation is said to be a celebratory moment for the monarchy to mark this beginning of a new era. An ancient ceremony of great importance, mainly religious. At the same time, it is a heads of state event attended by about a hundred heads of state.
A technical rehearsal took place early this Tuesday (2nd) to Wednesday (4th). Soldiers, horses and chariots paraded in a final practice, as there will be a procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, where the coronation ceremony will take place. On the way back another parade along the same route.
Groups that want nothing more to do with the monarchy want to protest in this direction. The government has said demonstrations are allowed as long as they don’t disrupt the event.
People are already camping out to see everything up close a classic of royal events. Some had a surprise this Friday afternoon (5): The King, accompanied by his son William, and Kate Middleton stopped by to greet the people.
