Terence Davies – an important director of modern British cinema – has died.
His own social media account made the sad announcement on Saturday, posting a photo of Davies and writing… “It is with deep sadness that we announce the death today, October 7th, of Terence Davies, who passed away peacefully at home after a short illness is.” 2023.”
There are also some axioms/poems included that deal with the fleeting nature of life. A touching obituary is attached to his IG story, in which he is mentioned as a filmmaker of poignant films.
Davies is perhaps best known for the slice-of-life aesthetic that always flows into his films, portraying Britons from different time periods – particularly the working class. The only film he will definitely remember is “Distant Voices, Still Lives” – a famous two-parter.
He has directed several other outstanding films…including “Benediction,” “A Quiet Passion,” “The Deep Blue Sea,” “The Long Day Closes,” “Sunset Song” and “House of Mirth.”
Davies’ films have often been nominated for international awards, including BAFTAs, and he also performed well at film festivals abroad. Over the years he had worked with some great actors – Cynthia Nixon, Dan Aykroyd, Laura Linney, Rachel Weisz, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Bonnar, Gillian Anderson, Emma Bell, Pete Postlethwaite and more.
He was 77.
REST IN PEACE
