London’s museum is launching an online appeal to help find stolen artefacts using tips from the public. To date, 60 objects have been returned.

The British Museum is now counting on the public’s help to find its stolen artefacts. The museum published an appeal to this effect on its website. The London museum announced on Tuesday that 60 objects have been returned so far. Another 300 have been identified and are expected to be returned soon.

Following expert advice, they did not release full details of the lost and damaged objects, the website reported. Most come from the department of Greece and Rome. These are mainly precious stones and jewelry.

“If you are concerned about owning or having owned items from the British Museum, or if you have other information that could help us, please contact us at [email protected],” the museum wrote. An international team of experts will also help you find it again.

According to initial estimates, around 2,000 objects disappeared from the London museum’s warehouses. The museum’s director, Hartwig Fischer, resigned with immediate effect after the series of thefts became known in August. No one has been arrested so far. An employee was fired. The British Museum is one of the most important museums in the world. The institution houses some of humanity’s most important cultural treasures. (APA/dpa)
