British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was booed as he arrived for the Thanksgiving service in honor of the Queen’s Jubilee at St Paul’s Cathedral in London. The screams of spectators could be heard clearly as the prime minister walked up the cathedral steps with his wife Carrie Johnson on Friday morning. Johnson is under immense domestic political pressure over the “Partygate” scandal surrounding the Downing Street lockdown parties.
The gestures of disapproval stood in stark contrast to the jubilation that the head of state, Queen Elizabeth II, witnessed in her public appearances on Thursday to mark the 70th anniversary of her presidency. More and more lawmakers from his Conservative Party are also turning their backs on Johnson. An imminent vote of no confidence is considered possible.
