British Royal Guard faints at military parade

At least three UK royal guards collapsed during the Colonel’s Review military parade Londonbecause of the heat.

Several soldiers passed out during the Colonel of the Prince of Wales’s parade at Horse Guards Parade today in the lead up to the King’s Birthday Parade.

On Saturday morning the 10th, the guards at the event wore woolen clothing and bearskin hats which did not correspond to the 30°C temperature. This garment was worn by more than 1,400 soldiers from the Household Division and King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery inspected by the heir apparent, Honorary Colonel of the Welsh Guards, Prince William.

They were rehearsing for Trooping the Color, scheduled for next Saturday, May 17. Military takes place every year in June as one of the King’s official birthdays Charles IIIwho celebrates his birthday twice a year.

One of the UK’s royal guards said it was like “being in a sauna”.

The youngest Welsh Guardsman to take part in the parade, 18yearold James Calford, said it was “like standing in a sauna with a 200kg barbell in your left hand”. He also added that the ceremony “is a lot harder than it looks on TV.”

Prince William thanked the British guards for their commitment Twitter. “A big thank you to every soldier who took part in Colonel’s Review on this hot morning,” said the new Prince of Wales. “Tough conditions but you all did a really good job. Thanks,” he added.
