Britney Spears and her ex-husband Kevin Federline reject tabloid reports they believe are untrue.

Spears and Federline, who were married from 2004 to 2007, are parents to teenage sons Sean and Jayden.

In a recent Chron article, Federline was quoted as expressing concern that Spears was “on meth.” A separate article in another British tabloid, The Sun, alleged that Federline staged a “failed intervention” to help his ex-wife.

“The fact that people are claiming things that aren’t true is so sad,” Spears wrote in an Instagram post over the weekend, adding that she hopes Federline and her son Preston, who is also in the Chron story is quoted as not having said such things about her.

“…it breaks my heart and the news is so tenuous…I’ve always felt like the news is bullying me…” she wrote. “It’s sad because everyone sits back like it’s okay to lie to this extent… Why am I being told to sit back and stand up???”

CNN has reached out to a Spears representative for further comment.

Federline also released a statement on Instagram, writing that his family was saddened that journalists from both media outlets “choose to fabricate lies and the heartache our family has endured and the trauma of our underage children in the Chron and The Sun to publish.” .”

He added that the reporters “were allowed into our home because we trusted them, but that trust was lost and we cut ties in March for many reasons.”

“The lies and attempts to exploit minors are click bait and another repulsive example of where journalism sadly went under today,” Federline’s statement ended.
