Britney Spears made her mark in the music biz as a quest to become a pop superstar, and many fans can still find the lyrics to “Baby One More Time” and “Oops! … I Did It Again” smash a hat. Now, the singer is reportedly returning to music after a secret recording session with her first new single in more than five years, alongside another music legend: Elton John.
Spears and John reportedly secretly recorded a duet version of “Tiny Dancer,” according to Page Six, which also quotes a music industry insider as saying the following about the collaboration:
That was Elton’s idea and Britney is a huge fan. They recorded a remix of “Tiny Dancer” as a full duet – and it’s amazing. Britney was at the Beverly Hills studio with Elton last week for the super secret recording session, which was helmed by super producer Andrew Watt.
The supposedly “super secret recording session” didn’t stay secret for long, but the news of a duet between Britney Spears and Elton John is something fans of both singers should be excited about. “Tiny Dancer” is of course one of John’s best-known songs, and it’s fitting that Spears’ comeback to music is taking place alongside someone she’s already a fan of. The source goes on to tell the outlet that people at her record label are “freaking out” after hearing the song, and “Britney is officially back.” Representatives of the two musicians and the record label have not officially commented at the time of writing. The song is due out in August.
Britney Spears hasn’t released a new album since 2016, when she released Glory as her ninth studio album. Three songs — “Private Show,” “Clumsy,” and “Do You Wanna Come Over?” — were released as singles this year, and nothing new from the singer since. Back in 2021, she claimed that she was not allowed to perform new music during her conservatory (which officially ended after 13 years in November of that year).
The singer continued to perform in the years following the last release of new music in 2016, although she decided in 2020 that she no longer planned any future performances, leading to another hurdle in her court case, with the conservatory not being terminated for more than another year will. Her then-fiancé (and now-husband) Sam Asghari hinted last year that fans might see her back on stage. While she hasn’t started performing again, a single that ties her with Elton John is worth celebrating.
The report of Spears’ return to music comes just under two weeks after she took to Instagram with a new version of her “Baby One More Time” with some changes. Her caption said she hadn’t shared her voice in a long time. Just look:
There are currently no details on when the Britney Spears/Elton John duet of Tiny Dancer will debut, but it’s good to see that Spears is ready to return to the music world. This has been an eventful summer for her after she was finally able to marry longtime friend and fiancé Sam Asghari. Although her ex tried to crash their wedding, footage released afterwards showed it was going like a fairy tale anyway. Hopefully, the future continues to look bright for the singer.
