Broadway star Idina Menzel says playing Lea Michele’s mother in Glee was “not good for ego”.
Idina Menzel has revealed that her time on Glee wasn’t exactly a flattering experience.
The Broadway superstar, 52, was honored to play the mother of Lea Michele, 36, despite a 15-year age difference between the two.
“As an actress, when you get pregnant, you’re afraid you won’t be able to work,” she tells this week’s Stellar Magazine.
“So I had my son Walker and three months later I got the call [to be on Glee] and so I said yes’
Idina continued, “But I was still breastfeeding and storing breast milk in refrigerators and little frozen lunch boxes, and I couldn’t fit into any of the costumes.”

“You know, you’re scared that you won’t be able to work again, and then people hire you as a mom, when you’re probably supposed to be her older sister,” she said.

Idina appeared in the musical TV series between 2010 and 2013 as Shelby Corcoran, the mother of Lea’s character Rachel Berry.
It comes after Idina detailed her grueling struggle with in vitro fertilization (IVF) as she tried to father a child with husband Aaron Lohr, whom she married in 2017.

A year after tying the knot with her husband, whom she met on the set of the 2005 film adaptation of “Rent,” more than a decade before they met, the Broadway legend began dating during her national tour in 2018 with several IVF rounds.
The star – who shares his 13-year-old son Walker with ex-husband Taye Diggs – went on to reveal that they wished to have a child of their own after watching her husband become the “most wonderful” stepdad.
“Maybe before you meet me [Lohr] “I didn’t think he wanted to have kids and then he sees what a good father he can be,” the Tony winner told People. “So I wanted that for him.”
Despite her attempts, Menzel said it was “not intended” to become pregnant again.
“So I had my son Walker and three months later I got the call [to be on Glee] so I said yes,” she explained
“I have this amazing son and I was lucky enough to have him,” said the Let It Go hitmaker.
“And the pregnancy was pretty easy and I got pregnant without any problems, and there’s a lot of people who don’t even get that.”
Menzel also gushed that her husband felt “really loved” because she “put her body through that.”
Additionally, she says that Lohr “sees Walker as his own child at this point anyway” and that they “are both content and happy with what they have.”
